HooHacks is the first major collegiate hackathon at UVA where over 600 students, hackers, and creators come together for 24 hours of hacking. 👩💻
As Marketing Co-Chair, I guided the marketing team in the visual interface and user experience design in collaboration with the technical team to develop the HooHacks website. I lead the conceptualization of our brand identity and designed logos and illustrations along with the rest of marketing team.
Context
Overview
HooHacks is a team of UVA students who run Virginia's biggest hackathon and one of the 50 biggest collegiate hackathons in the US. HooHacks also plans Ideathon, a tech entrepreneurship networking event. Our goal is to make learning and using software development at UVA and other colleges more accessible and fun!
My Role
As Marketing Co-Chair, I collaborate with committee chairs from every team to provide design materials. I work closely with the Technology Team to develop the website, ensure feasibility, and deliver assets. As part of the larger marketing team, we work together to ideate and develop marketing assets and hackathon materials for social media and hacking events. We developed the creative vision as a team and designed the illustrations and logos, where I then implemented these assets into a feasible design.
Timeline
We recruit new team members in the Fall semester and begin event preparation and design development for both Ideathon and HooHacks. Throughout the Fall and Spring semesters, we deliver and push out our website designs and begin designing all hackathon materials such as banners, t-shirts, stickers, and opening/closing ceremony slides. Leading up to all HooHacks events, we design all the social media and marketing materials.
